This fabulous opportunity will be like no other.  Come join me on this awesome and authentic trip to Kenya.  Our guide, George, was born and raised in Kenya and speaks 6 languages, including Swahili (the local dialect) and English.  Our drivers are a Maasai husband and wife team  To top it off, we will be there during the wildebeest migration on the Maasai Mara, which is considered one of the 7 New Wonders of the World and only happens during certain times of the year.  We will spend time with some Maasai people in their village and learn of their daily life and customs.  You will have the opportunity to experience the city life as well as the rural life on this adventure.

My favorite part is that about 80 % of the cost will go directly to the locals we are working with, the hotels we will be staying in (hotels in Masaai Mara, Nakuru, and Narok are Kenyan owned) and we will do our best to find a Kenyan owned hotel in Nairobi as well instead of a big corporate owned one. The remaining 20% will go toward starting other job creating businesses for example, an agri-business which will provide food and jobs simultaneously for the locals. So truthfully, very near 100% of the money will go into the local Kenyan communities.

ITINERARY:  This is our basic itinerary with more specifics coming later.  Itinerary is subject to change.

July 11, 2018:          Welcome to Kenya!  You will be met at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) and transferred to a nearby hotel.  The rest of the day and night will be at your leisure.  The vehicle and driver/guide will be at your disposal within Nairobi if needed.

July 12, 2018:         We will depart for the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.  Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa.  We will get to meet some of the residents here and even feed some baby elephants.  From here we will head to Narok with lunch at Kafein Bistro, and then on to the Maasai Mara, where we will check in to our hotel.

July 13, 2018:        Today we will enjoy a full day game drive on the Mara.  Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves.  Maasai Mara National Reserve stretches 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and raises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. Add the conservancies and the area is at least twice the size. It hosts over 95 species of mammals and over 570 recorded species of birds.  We will then return to our hotel for the evening.

July 14, 2018:        We will head out again to the Maasai Mara for another full day game drive.  Besides the many different animals we will see that live on the Mara, we will also be on the lookout for the wildebeest migration, which is a sight you will never forget.  We will then head back to the hotel to rest up after another adventurous day.

July 15, 2018:        Today we will leave the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and head to a Maasai village.  Here you will get to meet some of the Maasai people going about life as usual.  You will see and learn about their daily lifestyles, see their homes and experience their cultural dance and song.  We will then head back to Narok for the night.

July 16, 2018:        After 3 busy days on the Maasai Mara, you will appreciate this day of leisure.  You can choose to have an extended nap, visit the local shops and markets, or we may offer an optional visit to a school or orphanage where you can spend time with the children in a humanitarian way (we are still working on this so no details as of this time).

July 17, 2018:        Today we will depart Narok and head to Nakuru, driving through the floor of the Great Rift Valley.  We will then enjoy a game drive at Lake Nakuru.  The lake is home to millions of flamingo which gives the lake an unmistakable pink hue on the horizon.  While we will probably see less animals than on the Mara, the park hosts the endangered white rhino, lions, buffaloes, the elusive leopard and hordes of plain game.  We will overnight at a hotel in Nakuru.

July 18, 2018:       After a hearty breakfast, we will head out for our hike to the Menengai Crater.  Menengai Crater is believe  to be the second largest caldera in the world and at 90 km2 and almost 2500 m above sea level it is an  impressive attraction. It provides amazing views of Lake Nakuru.  The Crater is believed to be a very spiritual place and people come from far and wide to spend time praying and contemplating – and those who have spent time there say they have felt the presence of God  We will stay the night in Nairobi.

July 19, 2018:       Today you are on your own to relax and see the capital city of Kenya – Nairobi – on your own.  There are many things to see in this city from the Giraffe Center, the Nairobi National Museum, Brown’s Cheese Factory and Farm, and the Village Market.

This evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner at the famed Carnivore.  Watch servers carve meat onto iron plates, then serve up exotic fare on traditional Maasai sword skewers. This ‘only in Nairobi’ dining experience includes a full menu with starter, vegetables, soup, dessert, and coffee, and access to an all-you-can-eat meat buffet.

July 20, 2018:      Now that you have had an amazing Kenyan experience, it is time to head back home.  You will taken to the airport at the time that best suits your flight plans.  We recommend you not book your return flights prior to  11am to account for traffic and the customs and security process.  Then, safe travels home.
